Sony VAIO P Series Lifestyle PC Ultraportable Unveiled

Sony VAIO P SeriesSony unveiled today the VAIO P Series Lifestyle PC, “the world’s lightest 8-inch notebook”.

The Sony VAIO P weighs 1.4 pounds and is roughly as thin as a cell phone, according to the company.

The only VAIO P Series model currently listed on the Sony Electronics website is the VGN-P598E/Q. It has an unnamed Intel processor at 1.33GHz with a 533MHz frontside bus and 512KB of L2 cache. The VAIO P598E comes with 2GB of DDR2 memory, a 128GB solid state drive, Intel’s GMA 500 integrated graphics, two USB ports, and Memory Stick Duo and SD card readers. The ultra-wide display has a resolution of 1600 x 768 pixels and LED backlit.

Sony’s press release says the VAIO P Series notebooks feature a built-in web camera, 3G mobile broadband connectivity, 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technologies, as well as GPS functionality.

The laptop provides up to four hours of battery life with the included standard capacity battery and eight hours with the large capacity battery, according to Sony.

It runs Windows Vista operating system, but also has an instant-mode option for a fast access to music, videos, photos and the Web.

The Sony VAIO P Series Lifestyle PC will ship in an array of colors, including garnet red, emerald green, onyx black, crystal white and classic black.

It will retail for about $900. Pre-orders start tomorrow online at http://www.sony.com/pr/pseries. The ultraportable will also be sold at Sony Style stores starting later this month and at other major retailers around the country beginning in February.
